Aventura Mall is an upscale shopping mall located in Aventura, Florida. It is the 16th largest mall in the United States by total square feet of retail space and the largest mall in Florida. Anchored by Macy’s, JCPenney, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s, the center is highlighted by a mix of over 300 stores. The mall also features more than 50 eateries and restaurants, and the experiential Arts Aventura Mall program showcasing 20 museum-quality pieces. Sciens has been working with the real estate development company since early 2018 and has completed approximately 65 electrical and fire alarm projects with them.
The mall’s existing fire alarm system was outdated and in need of upgrading to ensure it met the current codes and regulations. This upgrade needed to occur while maintaining adequate fire detection coverage at all times and not disrupting the day-to-day operations of the mall.
The customer needed Sciens to work with the Miami-Dade Fire Department to secure a phase agreement, allowing us to partially upgrade areas and inspect the work after hours. They were also looking for Sciens to provide a higher level of service than the previous provider, focusing on timely responses and a high level of performance to deliver tenant spaces on time during remodels.
Sciens designed, installed and commissioned a code-compliant fire alarm system, replacing thousands of old devices, and installing new control equipment and notification devices.
We developed a phased installation plan, receiving the approval of the fire department and ensuring adequate fire detection and notification was in place at all times during the system conversion, and that the mall’s operations weren’t interrupted.
This certified fire alarm system now provides improved safety and notification for mall occupants in accordance with current codes and regulations.
