Acts Retirement-Life Communities

Customer

Acts Retirement-Life Communities is the third largest not-for-profit owner, operator, and developer of continuing care retirement communities in the United States. Acts Life Care communities provide independent living residences for people age 62 and above, with access to assisted living and skilled nursing care services. Acts began in the early 1970s, when a suburban Philadelphia pastor and members of the Church of the Open Door sought a new and better way of living for retired church members. Using their own resources, they built the first part of what today is known as Fort Washington Estates, which opened in 1972. As of 2019, Acts provides housing and services to more than 10,000 seniors through its family of 26 senior living communities in nine states and employs approximately 8,000 people.

Project Summary

Sciens has been working with Acts Retirement-Life Communities for over seven years and has helped them with four major renovations and hundreds of fitouts. Because of our solid relationship with Acts, they sought us out to be their sole source fire alarm vendor at their nine Pennsylvania and New Jersey locations. The goal was to certify that their communities are code-compliant and most importantly, ensure the safety of their residents and buildings.

Sciens Scope

Over the years, Sciens has evolved as the life safety partner of choice with the Acts team. Our expertise as an Edwards Strategic Partner allows us to guarantee the best systems in the region for communities like the ones Acts operates. This project encompasses nine PA and NJ communities, three support buildings, and the Corporate Headquarters where we service, inspect, and install renovations. These projects include:
• Brittany Point Estates
• Corporate Headquarters
• The Evergreens
• Fort Washington Estates
• Granite Farms Estates
• Gwynedd Estates
• Lima Estates
• Normandy Farms Estates
• Northeast Regional Office
• Old Corporate Office Building
• Southampton Estates
• Spring House Estates
• Support Services

Outcome

In the retirement community, resident safety is top priority. An older population in these types of communities requires the earliest detection of fire, plus swift and effective communication to residents and first responders alike. When the residents feel safe, they have peace of mind. Now, with a sole source fire alarm provider, the thousands of Acts Retirement-Life Communities residents in these two states can find comfort in knowing the systems in place provide the required level of fire protection and safety for building occupants. All nine communities have EST3 fire alarm networks in place, while the support buildings are equipped with iO series
control panels.
